Why the Jagiellonian Route?

This is a cruise for those who want to immerse themselves in history and the landscapes of Żuławy.
After the cruise, each passenger will be able to claim that they have sailed the oldest Polish navigable canal! The route was dug in the years 1494/1495, during the reign of King John I Albert, when Elbląg and Malbork, along with the so-called Royal Prussia, belonged to the Kingdom of Poland under the Jagiellonian scepter.
Right at the very beginning, we will pass through two Elbląg drawbridges: the so-called High Bridge and Low Bridge, which continue the tradition of such crossings between the Elbląg Old Town and Granary Island over several hundred years.
From the ship’s deck, we will see the former industrial buildings of Elbląg along the river banks, including the former shipyard buildings and docks, port quays, and yacht marinas – proving the maritime traditions of the inhabitants of Elbląg.
On the port side, we will notice a fork in the route, which is the beginning of the Jagiellonian Canal. The Elbląg River continues north (towards the sea), but we enter the waterway of the royal Jagiellonians.
After sailing just over 5.5 km, we will reach the former lock in Bielnik (Kępa Rybacka), beyond which the Nogat river flows towards the Vistula Lagoon. Today, these are safety (flood) gates in case of rising waters in the Vistula branch.
It depends on the ship’s captain whether we head up the river to reach the Teutonic castle in Malbork through the locks, or sail down the river to reach the waters of the Vistula Lagoon and even Gdańsk. However, this is a route for other cruises, and we turn back to return to Elbląg on time.
Fun fact: Until the end of the 19th century, at the junction of the Jagiellonian Canal and the Nogat river, there were two locks next to each other, including one two-chamber lock for larger vessels.
